- Detailed Technology Description
- New security labels have been developed using plasmene nanomaterials.
The scalable system consists of a printable ink comprised of plasmonic nanoparticles and inorganic Raman dyes. The label design offers enhanced security features in comparison to existing labels due to its dual nano- and molecular-coding capacity.
The dual coding system utilises:
- a first security level based on simple visible transmitted coloured features, and
- a second layer of encrypted plasmene- specific dual nano- and molecular- security codes.
The nano-code relates to the optical signatures of plasmene, whereas the molecular-code relates to the vibrational signatures of the embedded Raman molecule.
The complexity of these codes can be increased for additional levels of security, by spatially and spectroscopically engineering both geometrical parameters of plasmene building blocks and by Raman excitation laser wavelength.
The system is highly secure yet simple to decrypt with commercial portable handheld Raman systems.
