Nano coating
- Summary
- A widely applicable additive creating non-composite coatings
- Technology Benefits
- Cirrus is an additive that requires no alteration to the plating process or bath. It can be easily stored (>6 months) and transported, is non-toxic with no solid particles or particulate emissions. It provides significantly harder, stronger surface coatings (20-100% increases depending on coating) as well as enhanced corrosion resistance thus providing a more durable coating with better wear and scratch resistance. This can extend component lifetime and reduce materials costs through the use of thinner coatings.
- Technology Application
- Possible applications include coatings for the aerospace, automotive, electronics and decorative markets.

- Others
- "Cirrus Dopant" is a widely applicable liquid additive for many existing plating bath formulations that creates nano-composite coatings with uniformly distributed, amorphous ceramic particles in the 3nm - 12nm range, and applicable to both electrolytic or electroless plated surfaces. Cirrus doped nano-composite coatings can be up to 100% harder than non-Cirrus coatings, and show enhanced wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and in many cases produce a smoother, less porous coating surface. Cirrus nano-composite coatings do not suffer from the agglomeration or environmental issues common with use of powdered nano-particles. Cirrus Dopant can be tailored to custom bath specifications, and can be adopted as a drop-in process within standard plating parameters and systems.
