- Detailed Technology Description
- Textiles have been the fastest growing waste stream in various countries for over a decade, leading to concerns over the negative impacts imposed on the environment. Over 75% of the total fabrics used for clothings are made of PET or PET/cotton blend, which cannot be mixed or woven together to form new textiles, unless decolored before use. The project has developed a sustainable method of PET decolorization by using dye adsorbent materials such as activated carbon (AC) particles or crosslinked polystyrene (PS) beads under hydrothermal environment, to effectively remove dye stuff from the PET from garment recyling.
