Low-Cost and “Green” UHF RFID Tags
- Summary
- Today’s RFID tags are still expensive to be used for general products. If everything around us is tagged with RFID labels, the tag itself will become a potential environmental hazard.
We propose to develop innovative technologies to solve this puzzle – RFID tags using environmental friendly and other decomposable materials. On one hand, the RFID printing can be integrated into general product package printing process, thus the overhead cost is minimized. On the other hand, RFID will be fabricated using environmental friendly materials, which can be decomposed during the recycling process. In order to put the low-cost and green RFID tags into reality, many technical challenges need to be solved, namely, 1. Direct Bonding Techniques, 2. Printed Antenna Designs, and 3. Conformal RFID.
