An Apparatus for Reducing DC-link Capacitance

Summary

The invention can significantly reduce the DC-link capacitance in general power electronic systems through the use of a series voltage compensator. The lifespan of electrolytic capacitors, a component of power electronic systems, is cut short when ambient temperatures rise, and therefore many electronic system failures are caused by the malfunctioning of capacitors. The technology makes possible the substitution of high-voltage aluminium electrolytic capacitors by high-voltage power film capacitors of much smaller value.
