Summary: When a 2D image is displayed on a 3D (autostereoscopic) monitor, its resolution is significantly degraded. To overcome this problem, CityU developed an active barrier that converts a 2D display device into a 3D display device. The invention does not involve the design and development of the active barrier; rather, it describes a method of integrating an active barrier as a standalone unit for converting a 2D display unit into a 3D one. The modified display device can switch in real time between 2D and 3D according to a control signal embedded in the images.
