RFID System in Hospital

Summary: Quite a number of technologies have been adopted to avoid human mistakes in hospital operations - from traditional barcode to the popular Wi-Fi technology, etc. Although barcode system has low cost and requires no battery to operate, its features are very limited. Medical staff has to locate the equipments and point the barcode reader to the barcode for scanning. It is not convenient to use and offers no help to reduce their workload.

The semi-active RFID technology is the right technology as it requires non line-of-sight condition to operate. Unlike barcode system, it allows medical staff to scan the items within a certain range of area (e.g. store room) and does not require them to locate the items and use a barcode reader to scan them. With the help of a semi-active RFID reader, they can now use the application software installed on it to find out which item is missing. The same results can be uploaded to the server for further processing. Thus, daily operations of medical staff can now be simplified.
