Instant Structural Analysis (iSA)

Summary

iSA is a user-friendly yet powerful 2D structural analysis package that supports modelling with a “drawing” graphical user interface or by using template wizards for generating structurally complicated models in minutes. Also available are comprehensive databases of materials, standard or user-defined cross-sections and load types such as the point load, distributed load, temperature load, lack of fit and support movement. The results of the structural analysis are automatically completed and updated instantly after the structures and load cases have been defined or upon changes in structural geometry, support conditions, member properties and loading conditions. Apart from first-order static analysis, iSA also supports second-order static analysis, dynamic modal analysis, stability analysis and moving load analysis. It is not only a handy tool for practising engineers in structural analysis and design, but also a versatile tool for the teaching and learning of the subject.
Technology Benefits

  • Simple to learn, with undergraduate novices becoming expert users in just hours.

  • Quick model building tools, including a “drawing” GUI and template wizards, to model frames, trusses and continuous beams of different configurations.

  • Instant analysis of loaded structures and user-friendly presentation.

  • Support for first-order and second-order static analysis, dynamic modal analysis, stability analysis and moving load analysis.

  • Pre-accepted structural analysis programme (S0698) for submission to the Hong Kong Building Authority.

Technology Application

  • Structural engineering tools for modelling portal and multi-story frames, scaffolding systems, truss bridges, reinforced concrete bridges, etc.

  • Tools for teaching and learning topics on structural analysis such as the matrix stiffness method, stability analysis, second-order analysis, structural dynamics and moving load analysis.
