A novel method is disclosed for the preparation of an aqueous polyacrylate modified polyurethane dispersion. The preparation method includes three main steps: (a) preparation of polyacrylates polymer or copolymer without using cationic surfactants; (b) preparation of polyurethane prepolymer with carboxylic groups and neutralization treatment to the carboxylic groups; (c) Dispersion and chain-extention of polyurethane prepolymer by adding the polyacrylate emulsion (a) into the polyurethane prepolymer (b) under vigorous agitation, or other mechanical operation. The weight ratio of dried polyacrylate to polyurethane is in the range of 10:90 ~ 90:10.
