Solid-State Synthesis of Iron Oxide Nanoparticles固相法合成氧化鐡纳米颗粒

Summary
Gamma Fe2O3 (maghemite), alpha Fe2O3 (hematite) and Fe3O4 (magnetite) are the three commonly used iron oxides. These iron oxides are known to have many important technological applications, including application in the field of clinical medicine and electronics. Two general methods for producing iron oxide aqueous dispersion have been used for long ages. The first one is to prepare dispersion by milling or so-called mechano-chemical processing which is suitable for large scale production. The second one is by chemical precipitation. However, these two methods have the disadvantages of either time-consuming or surfactant contamination which greatly decreases the economy and efficiency of production.

The present invention describes the preparation of iron oxide nano-particles in the form of surfactant-free aqueous dispersion as well as in the form of powder by salt-assisted solid state synthesis by solid-state reaction. Maghemite nanoparticles of sizes ranging from 1 to 5 nm which are well dispersed and with minimal aggregation can be produced. The dispersion can be used as a magnetic resonance image contrast and pigment. This approach can reduce the surfactant contamination and time of production.

The invention can be applied electronics like rotary shaft sealing for vacuum vessels, oscillation damping for various electronic instruments and position sensing for avionics, robotics, machine tool, and automotive as well as in medical field like diagnosis and drug delivery.
