Interactive 3D Traffic Noise Model Construction System
- Summary
-
In the design of new highways and railroads, it is essential to estimate the amount of traffic noise affecting regions along the highway or railroad path. Existing traffic noise simulation system is capable of evaluating the noise levels in a landscape taking into consideration the effects of highways, railroads and noise barriers. This requires a precise three dimensional noise model of the landscape specifying the geometric information of all objects that may affects the propagation of sound in the landscape. Since existing traffic noise simulation systems focus on the accurate computation of noise levels in a landscape, they provide limited functions for constructing the noise model. The process of constructing a 3D noise model is thus tedious and requires extensive user interactions. A CAD system for the interactive construction and editing of highways, railroads, noise barriers, and buildings has been developed. 3D noise model will be generated directly from the CAD model. This provides an intuitive CAD system for the design of highways, railroads, and noise barriers, and which can be integrated with existing traffic noise simulation system. The end result is an effective means for reducing the anticipated traffic noise in designing highways and railroads.
