Catalytic Co-Dimerization of Vinylmetalloids with Unactivated Olefins: Vinylmetalloid Homologation

Summary
The invention relates to compounds and catalytic reactions to the production of organometalloids functionalized with an unsymmetrical 1,1-disubstituted alkenes by united two different widely available, structurally diverse, off-the-shelf substrates (vinylmetalloids and -olefins) in a head-to-tail regioselectivity over the production of typical internal disubstituted alkenes or monosubstituted alkenes by olefin cross-metathesis or typical hydroalkenylation technologies and attenuate other commonly observed side reactions. By using vinylsilane with -olefin as an example, the potential side reactions the invention minimized including but not limited to olefin isomerization/oligomerization, self-dimerization, hydrogenative dimerization, dehydrogenative silylation, silylative coupling, and Hiyama coupling. The invention expanded the availability of organometalloids significantly, minimized the stoichiometric use of halides or metals and this should make an impact on organometalloid industry, such as providing a new way to cross-link organosilicon compounds which is not amendable by using the Karstedt catalyst.
