The Unique Potent Bioactive Protein (POL) from the Chinese Medicinal herb, Yuzhu, Polygonatum odoratum (Liliaceae)

Summary: Disclosed is a method of extraction and purification of novel compositions with potent bioactivities from the Chinese medicinal herb, Yuzhu, Polygonatum odoratum (Liliaceae). In particular, the invention composition is an effective agent showing potent antiviral activities while demonstrating antiproliferative effect on HL-60 leukemia cell line in vitro. The methods of obtaining the cloned cDNA of the invention composition and its application for establishment of a transgenic plant production system are also disclosed. Methods disclosed is particular useful for economical production for of bioactive proteins, with pharmaceutical and nutraceutical potential, that can be directly consumed by humans or animals for its biological activities.
