Pulmonary Drug Delivery System

Summary

One of the known routes for the delivery of drugs into the human or animal body is pulmonary drug delivery, for example through nasal sprays or tracheal instillation. However, such method is very wasteful and a relatively large amount of the drug is necessary to ensure that the correct dose is received by the patient.

A novel technique has been developed for pulmonary drug delivery. An effective amount of a pharmaceutically active agent in the solution mixed directly with physiologically acceptable surfactant has been found to significantly increase the absorption of the pharmaceutically active agent via the pulmonary route.

This invention is particularly applicable to the delivery of drugs which cannot be given orally, or which have localized action in the lung. In particular the invention may be applied to the delivery of protein-based drugs such as insulin using for therapeutic treatment of diabetes mellitus.

The invention also extends to a method for the manufacture of pharmaceutical composition, comprising the pulmonary delivery of an effective amount of a pharmaceutically active agent mixed directly with a physiologically acceptable surfactant.

Technology Benefits

1. Chronic disease can be treated with pulmonary drug delivery
2. Drugs which cannot be given orally, can be delivered
3. It can increase the absorption of drug via pulmonary drug delivery

Technology Application

- Anti tumor agents for therapeutic treatment of lung cancer
- Therapeutic treatment of chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus

Detailed Technology Description

Thermal functional design CAD software, thermal functional simulation software and thermal functional visualisation software for both multi-layer clothing and multi-style clothing

Title: Pulmonary drug delivery system
Usefulness: Pulmonary drug delivery system
Summary: USE The compsn. can be admin. by e.g., nasal spray or tracheal instillation, and is partic useful for agents which cannot be given orally, including those poorly absorbed, those degraded in the GI tract, and those causing irritation. The agents include partic. proteins and peptides, e.g. insulin tricosanthin, and vasopressin.
Novelty: Pulmonary drug delivery system using pulmonary surfactant provides efficient, convenient absorption, use partic. for proteins and peptides, e.g., insulin, tricosanthin, and vasopressin.
