Novel Polyprenylated Benzoylphloroglucinols with Anticancer Activity
This invention is to provide two new polyprenylated benzoylphloroglucinol derivatives, garciesculentones A and C (compounds 1 and 2), which exhibited cytotoxicity and antimigration effect against the tested human cancer cell lines and have potential to be developed as anticancer drugs.
Those novel compounds may have potential to be developed as anticancer drugs.

The petroleum ether extract and the EtOAc-soluble fraction of the 80% (v/v) EtOH extract of Garcinia esculenta were found to show cytotoxicity against a panel of human cancer cell lines (SMMC-7721, HepG2, MCF-7, and MDA-MB-231). With bioassay-guided fractionation, two novel polyprenylated benzoylphloroglucinol derivatives, garciesculentones A and C (compounds 1 and 2) were isolated from these two bioactive fractions. The structures of new compounds were elucidated by extensive 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic analyses and mass spectrometry. Compounds 1 and 2 exhibited cytotoxicity against the tested human cancer cell lines. Moreover, these compounds had antimigration effect on ECA109 cells in the absence of cytotoxicity.
