Collagen-Mimetic Peptide Mediated Delivery of DNA Carriers for Efficient Delivery From Collagen
Researchers at the University ofDelaware have devised aninnovative and novel method of amplifying the magnitude and duration of transgeneexpression. This method uses the collagen mimetic peptide (CMP) mediateddelivery of non-viral DNA from collagen containing scaffolds. The compositionof the polyplex used is variable, allowing customized release of the contents. CMP – modification has proven to increase thetransgene expression for 10 fold longer duration. The CMP-polyplex-collagencomplex augments the collagen activity in invitro wound models and increase platelet derived growth factor BBexpression for enhanced wound closure rates. These properties make thescaffolds a promising tool in regenerative healing.
