Project ID: D2018-19 Invention DescriptionThe researchers at the University of Toledo have developed a sorbent coating that allows for direct extraction of metal ions without need for derivatization. These composite-coated pencil leads may be used as extraction fibers for solid-phase microextraction of metal ions. Further sensitivity and selectivity can be accomplished with inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry. This invention can also be scaled for solid-phase extractions. SPE and SPME applications coupled with the sorbent coating can assist in quantitative extractions and trace analysis in complex matrices.
