*Abstract
A porous bioactive scaffold comprised of fibers of a bioactive glass has been made that simulates the structure of cortical bone. The scaffold is porous to body fluids in both the longitudinal and transverse directions, and exhibits significant capillary action when in contact with a liquid. The scaffold has sufficient strength so that it is easily handled and it can be custom made to fit any size void or defect. The pore structure is similar to cortical bone, so the regrowth of nerves may also be possible.
