Body Fluid Component Electrochemical Biosensor

Summary

Purdue University researchers have developed a functioning biosensor technology that incorporates nanotubes to successfully immobilize the enzyme glucose oxidase (GOx). This permits the sensing of glucose in a blood sample with greatly improved sensitivity over existing technologies, and there are expectations that this technology could be applied to monitor glucose levels in other body fluids, such as saliva. The general nature of this technology means that it could be readily adapted to sense other important body fluid components.
