Dynamic provisioning for differentiated services
Lead Inventors: Raymond Rui-feng Liao; Andrew Campbell, Ph.D.Problem or Unmet Need:Differentiated services (DiffServ) is an architecture that specifies a simple, scalable, and coarse-grained mechanism for classifying, managing, and providing quality-of-service (QoS) to the network traffic on IP-based networks. However, efficient and accurate capacity provisioning in this architecture is significantly challenging. The technology provides a suite of algorithms capable of delivering automatic capacity provisioning in an efficient and scalable manner. These algorithms make most policy rules unnecessary and simplify the provisioning of large multi-service networks. The technology can enable quantitative service differentiation, improve network utilization, and increase the variety of network services that can be offered to customers.
