Corn Liquefaction Maximized for Ethanol Production

Summary

To eliminate these extra steps, researchers at Purdue University have found a way to maximize the concentration of the slurry that is obtained from the enzyme modified corn pericarp. The major change is that liquefaction would occur before thermal pretreatment; therefore, it would minimize any protein composition changes to the corn pericarp. This would increase liquefaction to high enough concentrations, making it suitable for ethanol production. Thus, it avoids major capital investments and provides a path for conversion of corn to ethanol with less equipment in these facilities.
