Anatomical Training Device

Detailed Technology Description

Researchers at the University of North Dakota have developed a training device designed for allied health professionals to practice orthopedic tests on a knee or elbow. The devices are anatomically correct, articulable models of the human knee and elbow that allow the major ligaments to be independently and selectively adjusted in order to simulate various healthy and non-healthy conditions. Each ΓÇÿligamentΓÇÖ comprises an elastic cable affixed at one end to the corresponding location about the ΓÇÿtibia,ΓÇÖ ΓÇÿfibula,ΓÇÖ ΓÇÿradius,ΓÇÖ or ΓÇÿulna.ΓÇÖ The free end of each cable is in communication with a selectable tensioning means. The displacement of the model will thus depend upon the user/operatorΓÇÖs input, and the model may be used to replicate a healthy joint as well as a variety of injury conditions, including specific injuries and grades of severity.
