Automated Biomass Digestion Analysis Device

Technology Benefits

Total time for digestion and analysis is less than 30 minutes Can be used for a wide variety of biomass samples Can detect a broad array of trace elements Can detect elements at concentrations as low of 0.4 ppmw

Technology Application

Used for the rapid digestion and analysis of trace elements in a wide variety of biomass samples, including: Cereal grains Oil Crops Wood CharcoalCan detect a multitude of trace elements at very low concentrations, including: Arsenic Mercury Lead Selenium Zinc

Detailed Technology Description

Researchers at the University of North Dakota have developed a state-of-the-art method and apparatus that automates and accelerates the extraction and analysis of trace elements from biomass. The invention is especially useful in industries where speed and accuracy is necessary. The method and apparatus are useful in the food industry for analyzing agricultural cereals that could be elevated in beneficial trace element content, as well as in the environmental field, where samples like wood and charcoal can be analyzed for environmental contaminants like mercury or lead.

Title: Automated accelerated extraction of trace elements from biomass
Usefulness: Automated accelerated extraction of trace elements from biomass
Summary: For accelerated extraction of trace inorganic elements in a biomass sample, e.g. agricultural product such as cereal grains in the food chain for proper functioning of the human immune system.
Novelty: Accelerated extraction of trace inorganic element in biomass sample, involves initiating chemical reaction of biomass sample to maintain pressure generated from reaction at specific value until sample is degraded
