Systems and Methods to Improve the Performance of TCP over Large Bandwidth-Delay-Product Networks
- Summary
- Existing TCP implementations do not perform well in mobile data networks. This invention tackles this problem by offering two methods to improve the performance of TCP in case of packet losses. These methods can be implemented in a network node, such as a traffic accelerator, such that existing TCP traffics can be optimized in a transparent way. Specifically, the optimizations performed by the proposed methods do not require any modification to either the server or the client of the TCP connection. They are compatible with the existing TCP implementations in all major operating systems, are transparent to the network applications, and thus can be readily deployed in existing mobile data networks to optimize TCP's performance.
