University of MissouriOffice of Technology Management & Industry RelationsNon-Confidential Abstract of InventionUM Disclosure No. 13UMC032ITScoreProResearchers at the University of Missouri have developed software that is easily applicable to structural selection in protein structure prediction. The energy scoring function included in the software (ITScorePro) was developed by using a novel statistical mechanics-based iterative method. Compared with the traditional way to derive knowledge-based scoring functions, our method circumvents the long-standing reference state problem by using rapid iterations through a physical, global convergence function. The rapid convergence of this physics-based method, unlike other parameter optimization methods, warrants the feasibility of deriving distance-dependent, all-atom statistical potentials to keep scoring accuracy. ITScorePro has been validated using diverse benchmarks and significant improvement in performance has been achieved.
