Solar Energy Harvesting with LED-Based Displays
- 總結
 - Researchers at Purdue University have developed a methodology to harvest solar energy or energy from other light sources using light emitting diode electronic displays. These displays can be used as solar cells to harvest solar energy and convert it to electricity when not being used to display information. Currently, there are devices that display information and devices that harvest solar energy, but no single device that combines both functions.

- *Background
 - Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) are used in outdoor billboards, traffic signs, and portable electronic devices including smartphones, tablets, and wearable devices. When these devices are not being used to display information, the displays provide no other functionality. The LED market is a $4.34 billion industry according to Frost and Sullivan, and with growth expected to continue, there is opportunity for innovation within the market.
