Novel Wheelchair With Built-In Seat Lift and Integrated Walker
- 总结
- Purdue University students have designed and developed a product that will allow wheelchair users to more easily get in and out of their wheelchair. The wheelchair utilizes a linear actuator, raising the seat about a hinge, to assist the user in standing up. For convenience, a walker is integrated into the wheelchair's armrest and can easily be deployed for use. Stability, comfort, and an increased feeling of independence separate this design from current products on the market.

- *Background
- Some wheelchair users have a difficult time transferring from their wheelchair to a cane or walker and vice versa. This lack of ability decreases their quality of life given they require assistance every day. Wheelchair transfer methods currently used in nursing homes and hospitals can be time-intensive, cumbersome, and even dangerous.
