An Integrated Neo-Vagina Dilator and Douche for Neo-Vaginal Space
- Technology Benefits
- Tran- and cis-gendered women who undergo surgical creation of a neo-vaginal space must dilate and douche the neo-vagina on a regular basis to prevent collapse and facilitate healing. Currently available rigid dilators have the potential to be injurious and provide no means to douche the neo-vaginal space while dilated. It remains difficult to properly irrigate distal areas with conventional douching techniques, as the neo-vaginal space is collapsed when not dilated. This invention couples a flexible dilator with a douching system to prevent collapse and speed healing.
- Detailed Technology Description
- Doctors at the University of California, San Francisco have designed flexible dilators of varying size to prevent collapse and maintain neo-vaginal space in a gentle and comfortable manner. Moreover, the dilators would be engineered to allow for the irrigation of the entire neo-vaginal space while dilated. Advantages: - Flexible: The dilator would conform to asymmetric shapes of the human body. Rigid dilators have the potential to be injurious and painful, and tear newly created tissue. - Facile douching: Required to ensure healing. Douching non-dilated neo-vaginal space makes it difficult to properly irrigate distal areas. - Ease-of-use: Coupling the dilator with irrigation capabilities reduces the time and effort required to ensure proper healing and maintenance.
