*Abstract: OM is a leading cause of hearing loss in children in the U.S. Nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae (NTHI) is a major causative agent of OM and other diseases of the respiratory tract. NTHI-mediated otitis media often persists despite repeated antibiotic therapies, due in part to the ability of NTHI to invade host epithelial cells. Researchers at Nationwide Children’s Hospital have developed a novel approach to treating or preventing OM by inhibiting Arp2/3-mediated invasion of host cells.
