*Abstract

Novel nanofibers composed of calcium phosphate (Ca-P) have been developed with desirable and tailorable physiochemical and mechanical properties.  The fibers have great potential in bone and dental tissue repair and regeneration as well as targeted and sustained drug delivery techniques.  Several variations of another Cornell technology for nanofiber fabrication (Cornell docket number 3857) were successfully implemented and utilized for the formation of hard tissue.  Various cell lines seeded in the Ca-P fiber material have shown excellent adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation, indicating great potential for tissue regeneration.

Schematic of the calcium phosphate nanofiber mat fabrication.
