- *Abstract
-
Cornell has developed a novel, high-aspect ratio, compact and extremely efficient Distributed Bragg Reflector (DBR). In Cornell's DBR, sections of high-index waveguide are separated by a low-index region bridged only by a very thin high-index section, which we refer to as a wire lens. The thickness of the wire lens is critical and at certain thicknesses, losses almost disappear while reflectivity remains at 100%. The length of these DBRs is on the order of 1 mm! Reflectivity of 100% can be maintained for a large range of wavelengths while limiting transmittivity losses to near zero.
