Title: Hybrid coatings prepared from glycidyl carbamate resins
Usefulness: Hybrid coatings prepared from glycidyl carbamate resins
Summary: In the preparation of a coating composition for coating a substrate such as an abrasion-resistant material, metal e.g. aluminum metal substrate, wood, glass, stone, ceramic materials, concrete, rigid and flexible synthetic resins, textiles, leather, and paper (claimed).
Novelty: New silane-functional epoxy urethane compound useful for preparing coating composition for coating a substrate e.g. abrasion-resistant material, aluminum metal substrate, wood, glass, stone and ceramic materials

Non-confidential Abstract of Invention: Epoxidized and transesterified soybean oil derived esters yield stable coatings for metal substrate based food and beverage cans. The coatings provide inertness and mechanical characteristics similar to or better than those obtained with the traditional petroleum oil based epoxy resins. The coatings do not impart any off flavors or objectionable taste to the beverage even after extended and punishing storage tests. The coatings of natural and renewable origin are more biocompatible than petroleum based products. Furthermore, epoxidized soybean oil esters compare favorably in terms of cost to the petroleum derived epoxy resins.
