Abstract of US Patent 7,008,533 - Macrocyclic antibiotics as separation agents: Macrocyclic antibiotics having ring structures with at least 10 members act as separation agents in crystallization, precipitation, filtration, electrophoresis, and chromatography. The macrocyclic antibiotics include ansamacrolides, macrolides, macrocyclic peptides, polyenes and derivatives thereof. The process has been found to be especially advantageous for separation of optical isomers by electrophoresis and chromatography. Also see patents: 5,626,757; 5,874,005; 5,964,996; and 6,669,842.Non-Confidential Abstract of Invention: A new class of molecules (comprising a large variety of structural types) is shown to be highly effective as chiral selectors for the separation, purification, and quantitation of enantiomeric compounds. These new chiral selectors can be used as bonded or coated stationary phases in HPLC, GC, TLC, and CE. Also they can be dissolved in free solution in order to achieve separations in HPLC, CE, and TLC.
