Combinatorial methods for inducing cancer cell death
- Summary
- Lead Inventors: Paul FisherA method for inhibiting proliferation and inducing cell death in a population of cancer cells by increasing the amount of the differentiation associated protein, mda-7 and decreasing RAS activity within the cell population is described.Nucleic acid molecules encoding mda-7 or anti-RAS antisense molecules are transferred into cancer cells using viral vectors. The anti-RAS agent can also be a ribozyme, a precursor of a triple helix, or a farnesyl transferase inhibitor. The method provides mda-7/anti-RAS combination therapy that is used to identify and treat suitable cancer cells, in particular, pancreatic cancer.
