The present invention is related to the field of cartilage physiology, repair, and regeneration, in particular, the invention contemplates a treatment for bone healing disorders by upregulating chondrocyte proliferation. For example, inhibition of cysteinyl leukotriene activity on chondrocytes using cysteinyl leukotriene- 1 receptor antagonists is useful in preventing and treating bone healing disorders. This invention also relates to other physiologic conditions which are influenced by chondrocyte activity, including pediatric long bone growth and neoplastic conditions involving cells of chondrogenic origin.
