Wearable Urinary Catheterization Simulation System
- Detailed Technology Description
- The wearableUrinary Catheterization Simulation System is a wearable system for standardizedpatients that allows nursing students to practice psychomotor skills andtherapeutic communication by explaining the insertion of a urinary catheter, communication with the patient throughout the procedure, and correctlydemonstrate the sterile insertion of a urinary catheter on both a male andfemale patient. The objective of this system is to allow nursing students tosimulate and practice urinary catheterization on “live simulated patients”.This system will be worn by live actors as part of the nurse’s catheterizationtraining module as well as simulations that require catheterizations. Thesystem will not injure the actor while providing realistic sensory feedbackduring insertion (including entrance of the catheter into the urinary meatus-burning, uncomfortable), insertion of the catheter past the internal sphincter(there would be pain as the balloon is inflated if it was not in the bladder),and release of urine (if having urinary retention patients would feelrelieved).
