Method and Apparatus for Preform Relaxation and Flow Control in Liquid Composite Molding (LCM) Processes Using a Vacuum Chamber and Port-Based Injection
- Detailed Technology Description
- Liquid Composite Molding (LCM) processes are used toconstruct complex composite parts by combining a fabric mat made of highstrength materials such as glass or carbon and a polymer matrix such as vinylester or epoxy. This invention uses theVacuum Induced Preform Relaxation (VIPR) process which combines the use of anexternal rigid vacuum chamber with multiple tool-side injection ports. The invention is an improvement over existingprocesses such as Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding (VTARM) and Seeman’sComposite Resin Infusion Process (SCRIMP).
