Biodegradable vascular grafts

Detailed Technology Description
None
*Abstract
Vascular grafts were made consisting of porous poly (glycerol-sebacate) (PGS) that may or may not be reinforced with a sheath. The current design is a PGS porous tube sheathed by electrospun PCL. The grafts are directly implanted into the host blood vessels. Host cells will infiltrate the graft and lay down their own ECM. Simultaneously the graft materials PGS and PCL are biodegraded. Eventually the graft is completely replaced by a host vessel. This eliminates concerns of disease transmission, immunogenecity, restonosis and others that are associated with competing vascular substitutes.Application1. Cardiovascular tissue engineeringAdvantages1. Does not require cells which differentiates this method from other tissue engineering approaches.2. Degradable unlike typical vascular grafts such as Dacron or ePTFE based grafts.Provisional Patent Application filed
