Pororus, crystalline, metal-nucleobase macrocycles, polyhedra, and extended metal-organic frameworks for hydrogen and carbon dioxide sequestration, carbon dioxide uptake, and drug storage and release

*Abstract
Investigators have developed novel porous materials constructed from metal ions and molecular building blocks to create porous metal-organic crystalline materials. These materials have potential bio-compatibility and recycleability, characteristics that are important for environmental applications such as enviornmental clean-up/remediation, food industry applications such as food fresheners/deoderizers, and biomedical applications that include NO delivery, drug delivery, and enzyme sequestration. These materials can be designed to address many problems. They can adsorb and trap large amounts of CO2 and H2 gases for clean energy applications and they can be used to store and release drug molecules for controlled release drug delivery applications. The properties of these materials can be adjusted based on the selection of the metal ions and the molecular building blocks.
