Detailed Technology Description
Researchers at Nagoya University have found that Potato Vetispiradiene 3 (PVS3), one of the genes involved in production of phytoalexin, was significantly expressed after inoculation with either compatible or incompatible species. a) Pathogen resistant transgenic potato was produced by introducing an activated form of protective signal transduction enzyme (stMEK1DD) linked to PVS3 promoter. While control potato was effected greatly by pathogen, transgenic potato grew normally. b) Oxidative-stress resistant transgenic potato was produced by introducing an activated form of Ca+-dependent protein kinase (CA-CDPK) linked to PVS3 promoter. Transgenic potato showed a great resistance to pathogen.

Researchers at Nagoya University have found novel promoter that is activated by pathogen infection. Gene transfer using the present promoter allows creation of transgenic plant wherein a desired gene is expressed specifically on the occasion of pathogen infection. Accordingly, by transferring any gene involved in protective response, pathogen-resistant plant can be created which evokes a prompt protective response to pathogen infection.
