The use of a polar nephelometer as a rapid particle sizer. A polar nephelometer based on a CCD imaging technique of light scattered by particulates. A reflection coated concave hollow Axicon lens deflects azimuthally at 90┬░ the light scattered by particles illuminated by a focused Laser beam at the center of the Axicon. In this configuration, the full scattering phase function of the scatterers can be obtained by using an imaging setup coupled to a CCD camera. A pinhole at the focus of a pair of conjugated lenses allows selecting a specific range of azimuthal angles. Images of scattering patterns of the scatterers are obtained at rates of 10 frames/s and averaged successively to increase the signal to noise ratio in the measured data.
