*Abstract: Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), defined as a localized dilatation of the abdominal aorta, is a life-threatening disease, which has an estimated incidence of 2-4% in the adult population. AAA is characterized by activation of the inflammatory response causing extensive remodeling of the aortic wall. Researchers at Nationwide Children's Hospital have demonstrated that decreased levels of Notch1 protect against the formation of AAA by preventing macrophage recruitment and down regulating the inflammatory response in the aorta.
