Combinatorial Transcription Control
The potential of programming genetic responses “at will” using this approach offers a multitude of applications in bioengineering, biomedicine, molecular agriculture, and other fields that benefit from manipulation of gene expression. For instance, it can be designed to detect specific gene expression patterns associated with hazardous, defective, degenerative, enhancing, or regenerative factors in organisms ranging from bacteria to humans, and thereby allowing the targeted expression of genes for reporting or therapeutic purposes.
UC San Diego inventors have developed strategies and methods for exertion of combinatorial control on gene expression by integrating multiple transcription signals directly in the regulatory region without the need for additional genes and their expressions.
