详细技术说明

UC Santa Barbara researchers have developed a minimally invasive, bio-electrochemical sensor for in vivo clinical tests that selectively measure specific target molecules in blood and tissues in real-time for many hours. The use of membrane technology prevents contact between blood cells and the surface of the sensor, therefore stopping blood clotting and blood or tissue-associated signal degradation over time. The sensor relies on E-AB (electrochemical aptamer-based) sensing, uses flexible and biocompatible materials, and is designed for both short-term and long-term clinical testing.

Background

The continuous, real-time measurement of specific small molecules in the blood or tissues would be of significant value to researchers and clinicians alike. To achieve improved understanding of neuronal transmission, for example, will require technologies that can measure neurotransmitters and drugs directly in the central nervous system continuously and with good temporal and concentration resolution. Continuous, real-time, highly resolved monitoring of specific molecules in vivo, however, remains a great challenge.
