The proposed technology offers a submersible 30 imaging system that combines transmission computed tomography (CT) and emission tomography for imaging, inspecting, and characterizing an imaging object that is underwater. This technology entails two modes of 30 imaging. One, Transmission CT mode scans an imaging object to reconstruct a 30 volume of the structural information of the object using a radiation source and a detection system. Two, the emission-CT mode uses the inherent or externally-induced radioactivity of an imaging object with a detection system to reconstruct a 30 chemicalcomposition map or a functional image of the object to characterize its materials or functionality.
