*Abstract: This innovation proposes a method to reduce the disease severity of diabetes and diabetes complications through attenuating this crossslinking process. Properties of the invention include significantly higher, stability, lower toxicity and higher efficacy than the parent compound 1 (PTB; see attached supporting information) in key areas of preclinical assessment, enabling, reduction to practice, and prototyping (compounds' efficacy in breaking already formed AGE-mediated crosslinking and in reducing AGE accumulation in vitro as well as in reducing AGE accumulation in live cells / a neuronal cell line).
