*Abstract: Multipledifferent coding systems (ICD, LOINC, CPT, etc.) can be used to transformdiagnoses and medical information into universal medical alphanumeric codes.While these coding systems generate uniform medical codes, hospitals likely usedifferent coding rules to determine which code to generate based on patientdata in electronic health records. Researchers at Nationwide Children’sHospital have developed a method for merging medical codes that are coded underdifferent systems by utilizing a deep learning based model. This methodprovides an unsupervised, highly accurate way to merge medical codes fromdifferent hospitals.
