Surface Dose Reduction System for In-Line MR-LINACS
- Technology Application
- In-line MR-linac systemsConventional linacs where surface dose is to be reduced
- Detailed Technology Description
- Defocusing magnet field that deflects scattered electrons awayfrom a patient’s surface
- *Abstract
-
Although in-line MR-linac systems do not suffer from magneticinterference or dose distribution changes, they are susceptible to high surfacedose, which can limit their safe use. This magnet configuration introduces adefocusing magnetic field to deflect scattered electrons away from thepatient’s surface, which greatly reduces surface dose. Scientists at theUniversity Health Network’s Princess Margaret Cancer Centre have shown thatsolenoid magnets with focusing properties are able to affect surface dose forsmall magnetic fields; further experiments will be aimed at better describingsurface dose reduction using defocusing magnets.
