TheOpioid Manager was created as a way to condense key elements from the CanadianGuideline for Safe and Effective Use of Opioids into a convenient mobile tool. The national guidelines were developed to help address concerns about misuse ofopioids and provide consistent recommendations for opioid use in chronicnon-cancer pain patients across Canada. While the 164-page document contains asignificant amount of information, the format can be overwhelming andinaccessible to the busy physician. The Opioid Manager is designed to be usedby health care professionals prescribing and dispensing opioids for themanagement of chronic non-cancer pain. It addresses four clinical areas: A)Before you write the first script, B) How to conduct an opioid trial, C) How tomonitor a patient on chronic opioid therapy and D) When and how to stop opioids.
The app contains checklists and reminders that help manage overdoserisk, abnormal drug-related behaviors, initiation of treatment and dosage.
