Novel microRNA gene expression profiling for sarcoidosis diagnosis

Detailed Technology Description
Title: Novel microRNA gene expression profiling for sarcoidosis diagnosis Invention: The invention is a microRNA (miRNA) regulated gene signature that can detect sarcoidosis in patients. The invention consists of 46 miRNAs and 1,559 genes that were differentially expressed with sarcoidosis severity. In addition, 17 genes were identified to form a diagnostic scale. A high score on the scale suggests a higher probability of complicated sarcoidosis.  Background: Sarcoidosis is a granulomatous lung disorder of unknown cause. The majority of individuals spontaneously recover with no side effects (uncomplicated sarcoidosis), but 20% of individuals experience major respiratory, cardiac, or nervous system complications (complicated sarcoidosis). Peripheral blood mononuclear cell gene expression profiling provides the opportunity to identify patients who are likely to develop complicated sarcoidosis.  Applications: A service for providers to conduct a diagnosis of sarcoidosis  Advantages: Detects sarcoidosis Identifies individuals with complicated or uncomplicated sarcoidosis Licensing Manager:  Rakhi Gibbonsrakhig@tla.arizona.edu(520) 626-6695
